The mission

Politics, explained without the spin.

Read the Room is an independent political newsletter network built on a single premise: that most people are not ideologues — they're busy. They want to understand what's happening in American politics without being told what to think about it. They want the context that cable news skips and the local stories that the national press ignores.

We publish two newsletters. One covers federal politics from both sides of the aisle. The other covers East Alabama — specifically Chambers County and the state that shapes it. Both are free. Neither has a partisan agenda.

The publications

Two newsletters. One standard.

Read the Room launched in 2026 and has published consistently every Tuesday since. The Frequency launched the same year and publishes every Thursday. Both are free.

The editor

Sim Floyd, Jr.

Sim Floyd, Jr. is a writer and publisher based in Valley, Alabama — in the heart of the Chambers County community that The Frequency covers every week. He founded Read the Room in 2026 with a straightforward goal: give readers the context they need and leave the conclusions to them. He writes both newsletters and edits every issue.

Our standards

How we work.

Every story in Read the Room and The Frequency is sourced from public records, primary documents, and established reporting. We do not editorialize beyond structure. We do not accept advertising. Neither newsletter has a partisan agenda — political balance in Read the Room and local accountability in The Frequency are editorial values, not stylistic choices.

Corrections are issued promptly and noted in the relevant issue. If you believe something we've published is factually wrong, email us and we'll look at it.
